The series ‘Gentle Gravity Deniers’ stimulates both the imagination and the humour. This series of AI-generated images is my parody of contemporary culture of denial – from climate change to scientific facts – wrapped in an absurdist, surreal jacket reminiscent of an idyllic Italian landscape.
You see scenes in which figures seem to deny gravity in a somewhat comical way – it is their daily activity. Gentle people float (almost) above hilly, Tuscan-like landscapes, hang upside down from ropes or casually step through the air as if climbing an invisible staircase. Houses and other structures seem to mock all the rules of gravity.
I like a combination of absurd humor with a subtle touch of criticism. By placing the theme of ‘denial’ in a light-hearted, almost dreamy scenario, we as a viewer are invited to think about serious topics in a lighter way. It’s a playful invitation to rethink our own beliefs and the sometimes bizarre reality we live in.
Perhaps here we are confronted with our own, sometimes stubborn denial of reality. Check out the collection of cartoon stories from the daily lives of the gentle gravity deniers below.
