AI - It's not all gold that shines
The phrase “It’s not all gold that shines” appeals to the imagination, and that certainly applies to the world of AI and art. While I have developed a series of ‘golden’ works together with an AI art generator, which you can view below, the duality of this technology comes into sharp focus.
That requires some explanation.
The art of AI
In recent years, we’ve seen a huge rise of AI-generated art. Whether it’s visual art, literature or music – AI has the potential to play a role in all creative areas.
As with any tool, the value is not so much in the instrument itself, but in how it is used. After all, with a hammer you can both build a house and destroy it, depending on the hand that wields that tool.
The same goes for AI art generators: the output can range from enchanting to banal. Not every generated artwork will stand the test of time or earn the term “Art” with a capital A. It requires a certain amount of human insight and curation to pick out the really valuable pieces.
The dark side of AI
In addition to the possibilities, AI also offers a range of issues and challenges. The technology is powerful, but not without complications.
Whether it’s ethical considerations, such as bias and privacy, or technological limitations such as the reliability and interpretation of data – AI is not the magic solution to all human problems.
Separating the cover from the corn
As with any technological advance, with AI we have to distinguish the good from the bad. This is an ongoing process of evaluation, adaptation and, yes, human ethics.
Finding the balance between the possibilities and the limitations is an art in itself. And as with all forms of art, it’s ultimately up to us to decide what we consider “gold.”
