Fire Schutterijmuseum Steyl 2008
In the early morning of April 10, 2008, a large fire destroyed the Schutterijmuseum in Steyl (Netherlands).
After the fire, I took a large number of photos of the rescued museum pieces that were lying or standing on the street.
The accompanying photo gave me the idea to do something with it for this website about AI. And so I came up with a text prompt in which I describe the scene in the photo.
Text prompt and surrealism
As you may know, an AI image generator (also called art generator) is fed with text, with a text prompt.
That’s what I did. This is followed by the process of setting the correct parameters and whether or not to choose a style. I opted for a surreal approach and let the AI image generator run its course.
I had a large number of images generated and selected the most interesting ones for me and further edited them with Photoshop. They all look like staged photographs – hence the title ‘Surreal AI stagings’.
Conclusion
Everything in the images below definitely looks different than you would expect. Each picture is its own story that you can fill in yourself. The relationship with the fire in 2008 is hard to find – but that wasn’t my approach either…
That sounds like a strange, fascinating project. In any case, the combination of personal memories, historical events and AI-generated surrealism has given me powerful and captivating images.
AI’s ability to play with these elements, combined with my own vision and input, shows the potential of human-artificial intelligence collaboration!
